If You Want to Be a Queen

If You Want to Be a Queen

“If you want to be a Queen, you have got to learn how to bow to other Queens.” -Guru Jagat

I absolutely love this quote by Guru Jagat, and I’ve been reflecting on it all week. It’s basically saying if you want to be recognized and celebrated, you gotta learn how to celebrate others too.

Here’s the thing: Jealousy, resentment, and attacking other women does no one any good, and quite frankly it’s super unhealthy.

If you want what someone else has, bow to her. Celebrate her. Throw her a big freakin’ cheer party. Know that her success doesn’t make you anything less, and those beautiful things are for you too.

On the other hand, I see a lot of women out there (myself included), shying away from sharing happy news or questioning whether or not they should talk about their successes in fear or hurting someone else’s feelings.

No, no, no!

Ladies, there is no need to dim your light to make others feel better. That’s doing a disservice to you and all your other sisters.

Instead shine your light so bright that it encourages others to shine bright too. And next time you see one of your soul sisters rocking it, celebrate her and know you too have so much to celebrate.

Get started by completing one of the action steps listed on my Spark Your Bliss affirmation card above.

Shine on, sisters!

The Power of Working in Groups

The Power of Working in Groups

“People in the same room understand and empathize with each other in a way that isn’t possible on the page or screen.” – Gloria Steinem, My Life on the Road

Here you are, reading a blog on the SheBreathes Balance and Wellness website. What brought you to this page?  How were you introduced to the SheBreathes Balance Studio and its powerful mission?

I am going to make an assumption that you were ready and actively searching for some kind of a group setting that would support you in your personal and/or professional goals.

I know I was!

I am a solo-preneur.  Most of the time, I am working out of my home office, a library, or a coffee shop. As with most of you who share this experience, I enjoy being in control, making all the decisions, and having flexibility and freedom in my schedule and in my checkbook.

But honestly, sometimes the solo work environment can get lonely, especially when challenges and obstacles arise. I am quite sure I am not alone in that often, I lose patience with myself, distractions and daydreams creep in, bringing self-doubt and defeat along with them.

When I read this part Jennifer’s mission statement

“Create a welcoming environment for women to gather, learn from, share with each other, grow individually and be inspired by the experience of women supporting other women in search of their own transformation.”

I knew that this space, and these women, would offer that sense of community, support and encouragement that would help me feelconnected to something bigger than myself.

Groups generate a motivational and inspirational energy that does NOT happen when you are on your own.

A group is a safe community where you can share your struggles, get different perspectives from your own, and feel a sense of accountability for your goals and tasks. There’s a give and take in a group setting that leaves us feeling like we helped as much as we needed help, and we knew as much as we learned.

When we leave, we actually feel better about ourselves and our capabilities, which fuels us to head back into our independent workspace and get stuff done.

Other Business Group Ideas:

You can join a networking group, a small business organization or take a class or workshop. These are great opportunities to take advantage of the power of numbers by making new contacts to stay in touch with outside of the event. Many people go to groups like this hoping to leave with long-term accountability partners, virtual team players, and professional referrals.

I invite you to explore the idea of a short-term group learning opportunity:

How Does Your Work Enable You to Connect to and Fulfill Your Life Purpose/Passion?
The angels #1 job is to show us who we are and why we’re here. Their guidance is like a road map for knowing your life purpose.

My personal life purpose is be the angels’ spokeswoman in human form. I help women understand themselves more clearly and know why they are here in this body at this time on Planet Earth. My passion is ignited when I witness a woman open to her divine guidance and follow it. Not just in a moment here and there, but as a lifestyle.

As a teacher of angel communication, I show people (mostly women) how to identify their divine guidance, use it for their decision making and most importantly – learn how to trust it.

Who Is Your Ideal Client and Why?
I work with bold, curious women who know there is a force much bigger than us, but have struggled to harness its power. She is likely going through (or anticipating) some kind of major life change/transition point that entails big decision making. And she needs help with that. She is open and knows that the higher guidance from her angels can be of service, but she needs help tapping into that Source.

What Unique Offerings Do You Provide?
I do some private coaching, but my main gig is online training that includes Angel Communication 8-week Live Training and our more in-depth year-long Angel Communication Masters Certification Training. I also have a Living with the Angels membership community to support sensitive beings to feel connection and inspiration.

Who Was Your Role Model Growing Up? How Did That Person’s Actions Impact You?
My mother. She was a warrioress with so much courage and grace. She taught me how to be a strong woman and to insist on being myself, no matter what. And… she taught the importance of lipstick 😉

Favorite Place to Escape and Refuel?
The ocean…it doesn’t really matter where, although I love Block Island and the Rhode Island beaches. The Caribbean works too. Once an ocean girl, always an ocean girl.

Top 3 Ways to Treat Yourself to Self-Care?
My morning “stretch and pray” routine are key. Evening meditation is non-negotiable, even if something’s going on and I can only do 5 minutes. I also make it a priority to dress in alignment with my work, even if I’m working from home. I can’t say I do this 100% (thank you winter!), but it’s a work in progress that always rewards.

How Do You Express Yourself Creatively?
I love to write. If my emotions are swirling or I’m needing clarity – writing is the remedy.

Last Memorable Book You Read and Why?
The Dalai Lama’s Cat by David Michie. Well, I love cats. And I love spirituality and am especially intrigued by Buddhism. Put them together and it’s peanut butter jelly time!

Favorite Movie and Why?
There are many, but the one that comes on and I can’t turn off…Miss Congeniality. Yea, that’s true. Sandra Bullock makes me giggle, which I always find to be a good thing. I like when she snort laughs, because then I snort laugh. Plus, she kicks ass and gets the bad guys.

“Go to” Quote or Mantra that Grounds You?
It’s all good.

Accomplishment Are You Most Proud of?
My children. After that – AngelsTeach

Best Lesson Learned in Life So Far?
Surrender. It’s taken over 50 years to get back to where I was when I was 4.

Advice to Younger Self?
Be yourself – it’s safe and it’s what you’ll ultimately find is necessary. And always trust your intuition. If it feels loving, it will never steer you wrong.

What Do You Love Best About Yourself (physical trait or personality characteristic) and Why?
I am relentless cheering and supporting anyone working to express their true self and overcome traps of the ego. It doesn’t matter if it’s a student, client, friend, friend of a friend, friend of my daughter’s friend,… I’m on it. As a dear friend once said, “When I put my mind to something, I devote myself 200%.” And I like being tall.

Any Advice for Women Considering Joining the SheBreathes Collaborative?
In the spirit of Michael Jordan…Just Do It! This is a beautiful community, space and tribe of woman working to make the world a better place. How perfect and oh-so-needed is that!

Any Message You Have for Our Community?
I love you! That may sound trite, especially if we haven’t met, but I promise you I mean it. As we connect heart to heart and open to the love that is ever present, we grow, evolve and live a joyful, guided life. We heal, our families heal, our community heals and humanity heals. We all have warts of some sort and we ALL have so much goodness that lies within. Let the love we share amplify that goodness times infinity! And remember…your angels can help you do that!

How Does Your Work Enable You to Connect to and Fulfill Your Life Purpose/Passion?
My passion is to take that which I have learned, both through higher education/training and perhaps more importantly work/life experience and share it with others through connection and service. Through my work I am able to support others exactly where they are at, guiding them and offering them direction in their own learning and development.

Who Is Your Ideal Client and Why?
My ideal client is an adult woman who has an idea of what she would like more of in her life, be it more love, freedom, abundance, time, peace, connection (this list only scratches the surface). She would like to have someone to walk alongside her in her journey for guidance, support and encouragement. She is desiring personal growth and purpose in her life and is not afraid to look inside her beautiful self.

What Unique Offerings Do You Provide?
For more than 19 years I have provided Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Strengths-based therapy to individuals on their journeys of emotional and spiritual healing. I have treated women struggling with Mood, Anxiety and Adjustment Disorders, Trauma and PTSD, loss and grief and personal and spiritual development. As my career has progressed and life challenges have sent me in unexpected directions I have found the quick and profound changes clients can make through Coaching. I now bring to my Coaching Practice a blend of clinical skills and experience in addition to Coaching strategies that allow clients to move forward in a supportive, purposeful, intuitive way.

Who Was Your Role Model Growing Up? How Did That Person’s Actions Impact You?
My Mom. Throughout my life my Mom was always, and still is, a wonderful Mom.

Favorite Place to Escape and Refuel?
My favorite place to escape and refuel is not a specific place but rather any place that is in nature, near water, under sunshine and with a loved one.

Top 3 Ways to Treat Yourself to Self-Care?

  • When I want to take care of myself, I sit still and BE. At times it is the most challenging, but always the most rewarding.
  • A walk or being outside in any number of ways with a good friend and good conversation is another way I truly enjoy taking care of myself.
  • Allowing my self to listen to what it is that I want and need in that moment and indulging in it!

How Do You Express Yourself Creatively?
I express myself most creatively by making a home for myself and children. Being surrounded by modest beauty and a serene, simple home is of utmost importance to me. There I can create a sense of calm, safety, love, fun, and belonging. It truly fills me up!

Last Memorable Book You Read and Why?
The Four Tendencies by Gretchen Ruben. A huge lightbulb went on for me once I better understood myself as an Obliger, one who would always commit to meeting the expectations of others, often sacrificing the commitment or expectations for myself. This allowed me to pause and ask my true intentions and goals.

Favorite Movie and Why?
Under the Tuscan Sun. Shortly after divorce, I watched Under The Tuscan Sun with Diane Lane. She is a recently divorced woman who unexpectedly goes to Italy on a 10 day vacation. An impulsive decision leads to life-changing events of love, connection, adventure and friendship! I still dream of buying my villa under the Tuscan sun!

“Go to” Quote or Mantra that Grounds You?
“In my world, nothing ever goes wrong.” -Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Accomplishment Are You Most Proud of?
My children. Raising children in this day and age is perhaps one of the most difficult jobs out there. While I am only 95% certain of how they are going to turn out as adults as they are only 11 and 13, for now, they are super kind, smart, funny and thoughtful human beings who I am incredibly proud of!

Best Lesson Learned in Life So Far?
Clarify your intentions, put them out there and then let the Universe take care of the details!

Advice to Younger Self?
Trust the future. It all works out exactly how it is suppose to!

What Do You Love Best About Yourself (physical trait or personality characteristic) and Why?
I love my motivation, perseverance and desire for life long learning.
