How Does Your Work Enable You to Connect to and Fulfill Your Life Purpose/Passion?

My work came to me after my life fell apart and I didn’t know how to turn it around. I knew something needed to change in the way I did things, so I started to study, research, learn and work on myself. Once I began to rise out of my darkness, I began to feel a strong inner pull towards sharing this knowledge with others. Not only did I feel the pull to work with people in this way, I was also called and “heard” messages that I was meant to do this work. I listened and ever since have been listening to the inner guidance I continually receive relating to my path. My work is so closely related to my life that I see this purpose as part of who I am and not a separate job.

Who Is Your Ideal Client and Why?

My ideal client is someone who is ready for a change because I can only work with individuals that have a strong desire for something different. I live by the words, when the student is ready the teacher will come.

What Unique Offerings Do You Provide?

I work with individuals, so they can overcome their personal obstacles. We get to the root cause of their programming through various modalities like energy work, hypnotherapy and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming).

Who Was Your Role Model Growing Up? How Did That Person’s Actions Impact You?

As a younger person I didn’t have any role models, I was very lost, however as I began to connect with the person I had aspired to be I realized I admired certain individuals that possessed the type of person I wanted to be. These people are: The Dalai Lama for his playfulness, love for humanity and deep wisdom, Deepak Chopra for his knowledge of holistic wellness and for being a well-respected thought leader, Oprah Winfrey for her keen business skills, determination and influence and finally Richard Branson for his unique entrepreneurial skills and ability to enjoy life in a fun and creative way while being successful.

Favorite Place to Escape and Refuel?

The woods are my place to ground and connect with the answers that are usually hidden within and difficult to access when life gets busy.

Top 3 Ways to Treat Yourself to Self-Care?

I have a daily morning ritual that was integral in turning my life around. I begin each day with gratitude for the gifts I’ve been given, I use my daily yoga and dance practice to help me get in touch with my body and I sit in a mindfulness/ meditation practice to be with myself through life’s journey. These 3 practices are woven into my daily regimen, this self-care routine is extremely important for my well being. I wouldn’t have been capable to change things for myself if this weren’t a part of my life.

How Do You Express Yourself Creatively?

Movement is key for me, I will draw with my entire body (totally funny to witness yet absolutely freeing to do), dance and pull formulas and ideas that I’ve read/ learned and weave them together into a rich tapestry to share with others.

Last Memorable Book You Read and Why?

The Book of Secret Wisdom The Prophetic Record of Human Destiny and Evolution, by Zinovia Dushkova. This book was inspiring because I believe that we are on an evolutionary path and all the changes occurring are intended for a bigger reason. I realize that it is difficult to prove this theory and yet I find that living my life this way has exponentially improved the quality of my life and so this belief system has made my life a much happier one.

Favorite Movie and Why?

Indiana Jones. All of them. My FAVORITE part of my work is to learn and understand how we work as humans, not only in our small day to day world but in all of the world. I LOVE traveling and immersing myself in different cultures and societies so that I can absorb and learn their wisdom. Indiana Jones was the epitome of saving people, exploring faraway lands and surviving through situations that most people wouldn’t think one could survive from. He was the nerdy superhero type that I have always been drawn to and want to be.

“Go to” Quote or Mantra that Grounds You?

These words remind me that by loving myself and believing that I am good enough, aids in my well being but it is also something that, by treating myself with reverence, gives others permission to do the same.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”― Marianne Williamson

Accomplishment Are You Most Proud of?

Raising 3 young men, to respect love and adore me despite what they were taught in their formative years while guiding them into living happy, purposeful lives.

Best Lesson Learned in Life So Far?

I am capable of getting through difficult hardship and landing in a better situation.

Advice to Younger Self?

It is okay to show people who you really are. Once you do, the people that accept and love you as you, will show up and hang around.

What Do You Love Best About Yourself (physical trait or personality characteristic) and Why?

I forget pain which allows me to open my heart and love unconditionally (and learn valuable lessons). I also act in spite of fear which has helped me live my dreams. I have gotten comfortable enough with fear that I know that even if I’m feeling scared about something relating to my career or personal growth, it doesn’t mean that I’m not supposed to do it.

Game Changer Interview: Mariana Sanford Maynard

Game Changer Interview: Mariana Sanford Maynard

Name of Your Business

Mariana Sanford Maynard, LICSW- Family Support Specialist & Reiki Master

How Does Your Work Enable You to Connect to and Fulfill Your Life Purpose/Passion?

I love supporting people make connections – either physically as a bond to another person, to their emotional patterns and habits and to their own abilities to heal. The skills, education and experience I have as a clinician and my Reiki training blend well to enhance the work with my clients. Depending on what the client is seeking I can offer skills either as a Clinician, a Reiki Master or both.

Usually, regardless of which practitioner “hat” I am wearing- I use all my skills and resources. I have never fit into a prescribed category as a person. I don’t look or sound the way somebody is ” supposed to” when they are bilingual and bi-cultural. I have a tendency to be honest, but kind. I can be a deep thinker yet tend to act based on feelings and intuition. All of these personal characteristics work and are finally “at home” in the work I am building.

Who Is Your Ideal Client and Why?

Post-partum parents, first time parents, parents of toddlers (LOVE them!), MOMS. These people are the “Supporters “for their families and I am interested in supporting the supporters. In our work together, the supporters can keep on doing the great things they do for others while also supporting themselves.

What Unique Offerings Do You Provide?

Sense of Humor, Honesty and Kindness ..oh and I am fluent in English and Portuguese. Conversational Spanish skills too.

Who Was Your Role Model Growing Up? How Did That Person’s Actions Impact You?

My Brazilian Grandmother; Vóvó became my role model as I started reflecting on and learning more about her. She was a devout Catholic and in my family we would half jokingly we should ask her to pray for us- related to a situation or wanting/needing something – because she had strong prayer ( reza forte). This connection with a higher power for guidance and strength gave a great deal of comfort and solace. I am not traditionally religious – but the notion of universal energy which I discovered thru Reiki is very special and nurturing to me. My grandmother inspired me with her convictions and caring for others. Vóvó stopped attending Mass at her church when a new priest closed the soup kitchen which had fed the hungry and poor. Bed and table linens were sent to the local convent to be washed and pressed weekly. Sure, there were no washing machines. More important though, the convent provided jobs, food and shelter to women and their children.

Favorite Place to Escape and Refuel?

Nature – a walk in the woods or a stroll by the ocean.

Top 3 Ways to Treat Yourself to Self-Care?

When I think of it:

1. Reiki
2. Shamanic Journeying
3. Massage

How Do You Express Yourself Creatively?

I play landscaper in my garden or cook.

Last Memorable Book You Read and Why?

The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown! The title says it all. We need to let go and be present in acceptance of ourselves; as we are! Its a book you can re-read over and over- and you will find something new that resonates with every reading.

Favorite Movie and Why?

I don’t think I have one..if I had to pick just one- it would be something Wes Anderson directed

“Go to” Quote or Mantra that Grounds You?

I’m going to make a push for ” RELEASE “- it sounds and feels kinder and more realistic than “Relax”. Think about it- when you are tense and someone tells you to relax- don’t you get less so? “Release “helps me tune into my body/muscles and notice I need to release; for example, my shoulders and they will in fact drop down from my ears to where they should be! If I can sneak in an official quote too- it would be one I revisited the other day – ” Completion comes not from adding another piece to ourselves but from surrendering our ideas of perfection” – Mark Epstein

Accomplishment Are You Most Proud of?

My kids!

Best Lesson Learned in Life So Far?

Humor is food for the soul- always!

Advice to Younger Self?

What Do You Love Best About Yourself (physical trait or personality characteristic) and Why?

Staying True to Yourself by Susan Kapatoes, MHA, CPC

Staying True to Yourself by Susan Kapatoes, MHA, CPC

In my previous blog, Determining the Real, we talked about the importance of staying true to yourself by listening to your gut feelings and intuitive hunches. It is crucial to pay attention to these inner cues and act upon this guidance if it is going to fulfill its purpose and propel your life forward.

Luckily, I was given the golden opportunity to practice my own advice during May of 2018. As some of you know, I recently decided to rent my own office space in order to promote my business, Inspire Your Journey LLC – a company that is 100% dedicated to helping people transform their wellness goals into action.

Inspire Your Journey offers Holistic Health Coaching, Reiki Healing, and Guided Meditation Workshops for individuals, groups or corporate wellness programs looking to boost employee morale and increase productivity. I am also available for Educational Seminars and Speaking Engagements.

Listening to My Heart

I enjoyed having my own practice space but, even better, I LOVE being surrounded by a community of like-minded people. Over time, I realized that I could only obtain this type of support system by being affiliated with an organization that was firmly established in the community.

I was excited to start my new business venture, but I hadn’t considered all the moving pieces that are required to grow the business most efficiently. Inspire Your Journey has much to offer, not only to clients, but to the community at large. After much contemplation, I decided to connect with a local wellness center and work in collaboration with other people who have the same goals and aspirations as the mission of my business.

~~~~~~
The mission of Inspire Your Journey is to help people transform their wellness goals into action and achieve total health of their mind and body with ease and grace.
~~~~~~

The result? When you are able to achieve total health of your mind and body with ease and grace, you are able to experience more happiness, inner calmness, and balance in your life.

SheBreathes Balance & Wellness Studio

When I first stepped into the SheBreathes Balance & Wellness Studio, I was WOWED by the positive energy imbued throughout the physical space. As soon as I walked through the door, I was greeted by an atmosphere of joy. As I perused the studio, I allowed myself to soak in the healing vibrations which felt wonderful.

Yes, within this space, there was something special that I couldn’t quite articulate into words, but it felt enlivened with a beautiful energy. It was almost like being transported into another world – one where I felt buoyed by the enchanting ambiance as I breathed the scent of lavender essential oil being diffused throughout the air.

And then I met Jennifer Gulbrand, the owner of SheBreathes, and it was easy to see why this place was humming with such an incredibly uplifting vibe. Jennifer is excited about her mission which is reflected in her words, mannerisms, and the dedication she shows to the SheBreathes Balance & Wellness Studio.

If you complement Jennifer about the great atmosphere of her studio, she will humbly say that it is not about her – it is about WE – it is a combination of the members and the guests co-creating this nourishing energy of support:

“The physical space is wonderful but it’s the positive energy in the studio that makes it most unique. Our members and guests are making meaningful connections with like-minded people in a warm and inviting sanctuary. When guests walk in, they breathe in the essential oils, listen to relaxing music, and almost immediately their shoulders drop and they feel at home. The vibe we’ve created is positively influencing the way people feel about themselves.”

The SheBreathes Mission

SheBreathes Balance & Wellness Studio is a women’s community and collaborative dedicated to the education, empowerment, and advocacy for the renewal of women’s mind, body and soul. Men are welcome to join this community too, although the main focus is empowering women to reach their full potential.

In Jennifer’s words:

“SheBreathes is my way of supporting a modern evolution of the women’s movement. We hold space for women and to practice self-care and experience sisterhood and support. It’s no secret that women need strong connections with other women to feel whole. Studies suggest that powerful female friendships can have a measurable impact on overall health. When women bond together, they can make a meaningful difference in their own lives and in the lives of others.”

The mission of SheBreathes substantiates the mission of Inspire Your Journey which is why I chose to work with Jennifer. In order to get a clear picture of where our life is headed, sometimes we need to pause and slow down. The process of being self-aware begins with knowing what we want and what holds value for us.

I honor heart-centered friendships and strong community relationships which is why I decided to corroborate with SheBreathes Balance & Wellness Studio.

Looking Within

What makes your heart sing? What brings you joy? It is imperative that you know the answers to these questions so you can create the life that you desire. Otherwise you will be searching for the answers outside yourself when they can only be found within.

If you are going through a transition in your own life and need clarity, Inspire Your Journey’s Holistic Health Coaching services can help to guide you through the maze of choices you might by contemplating. But you can begin the process of self-awareness right now by practicing my “Looking Within” meditation that I’ve shared below.

Your intention creates the spark that moves your life forward. This intention cannot be found in a video game, a TV show, or your iPhone. It is a part of your core being and the reason why you are here. If you get lost in the loudness of life’s distractions, you can use this meditation to gain more insight into the direction of your life.

I encourage you to give it a try.

  • Find a quiet place where you can relax and not worry about being distracted. Even if you only have 5 minutes, this is adequate.
  • Take a few deep breathes – in and out – in and out – Focus on your breathe moving freely in and out of your body.
  • As you continue to inhale and exhale, imagine the air that you are breathing is infusing your entire being with calmness. If you can’t feel the sensation of being relaxed, then state out loud: I am Calm. Keep repeating this mantra until you feel the link to your inner peace.
  • Project your intention from this state of calm power. If you are unsure of what to intend, then ask yourself: what makes my heart sing? what brings me joy? These questions can be your intention.
  • Allow the answers to manifest. You may get insights right away, or they may manifest in the future. Trust that divine timing is the right time.

A few notes about this meditation – focusing on your breathing gives your mind something to do and helps you to stay present in the moment. Intuitive insights are able to come forth much more easily when we are in a state of calmness. This is why it is important to connect with your inner tranquility.

If you find it difficult to completely relax, then a Reiki Session can help you to access your inner calm. You can read my blog, Reiki Goes Mainstream, to gain a better understanding of Reiki’s powerful healing benefits.

Closing Thoughts

There will always be challenges during our life’s evolving journey, but there are solutions to overcome them. The key to navigating through the changing landscapes with ease and grace is being aware of your perspective – are you viewing these changes as obstacles to your personal growth or opportunities to heighten your development.

Obstacles can be viewed as opportunities when we use them as stepping stones towards our progress and transformation. I used my business situation as an opportunity to grow rather than allowing it to become an obstacle to my evolvement. And you can do the same!
